On a Kuala Lumpur afternoon, the chirping of cicadas, wrapped in the fragrance of coconut, fills the streets. On the beach in Kota Kinabalu, the setting sun paints the corners of your headscarf a honey-colored hue. Beneath the minaret during morning prayers, as you raise your hand to adjust your modal hijab, the wind quietly carries away the sweat on your forehead…
For Muslim women, the headscarf is never a constraint, but a second skin. It accompanies us through the humid and hot streets, the air-conditioned room and the scorching sun, the solemn bowing of our heads during prayer, and the light, graceful movement of our feet as we chase our children.
Today, we’ve tailored this thin breathable modal hijab for our Malay sisters. With the softness of modal as its base, and the ingenuity of breathability as its weft, it blends faith and comfort with a gentleness that perfectly captures the tropical climate.
We understand the heat and humidity of the Malay Peninsula all too well. Wearing an ordinary headscarf for too long can cause sweat to cling to your neck, clinging to your back like a piece of paper during exercise, and even prostrating during prayer becomes a delicate gesture.
This malay thin breathable modal hijab is specially crafted from 70s ultra-fine modal fiber, a natural wood pulp extracted from eucalyptus trees and spun through 28 gentle processes.
Lightweight: Weighing only 38g/㎡ (about half the weight of a typical cotton headscarf), it’s as thin as a book page when folded, making it compact enough to fit into a small bag. Unfolded, it drapes beautifully, wrapping your hair and neck without weighing them down or constricting your face.
Sweat-wicking: Modal is naturally 1.5 times more hydrophilic than cotton, quickly absorbing sweat from your forehead and back of your neck, allowing it to evaporate through the interfiber gaps. The sweat you worked up while picking coconut milk at the market will be dry by the time you reach your door, leaving your back feeling refreshed.
Softness: The fiber, treated with a softening water treatment, feels smoother than regular modal. It feels like silk soaked in morning dew against the skin, preventing redness or itching, even for those with sensitive skin.
This thin breathable Malay modal headscarf measures approximately 190cm x 85cm, long enough to cover the top of the head to just below the shoulders, and is designed with a slightly wider width. This avoids the constricting feeling of a narrow headscarf, while also preventing it from being too wide and bulky. The desaturated Morandi color palette (off-white, light lotus root pink, pale moon blue, and chaka white) creates a soft glow in the tropical sun, complementing both Baju Kurung (traditional Malay long skirt) and modern maxi dresses.
This modal hijab features a double-locked hem and a slightly curled finish, resulting in a soft, non-irritating edge that resists curling even after 10 machine washes. A hidden elastic band (only 0.3cm wide) is included on the inside. Wrap it around your head and gently pull it to create a natural, contoured fit. It won’t slip when you bow your head in prayer, and you won’t have to constantly adjust it while running and buying milk tea.
Multiple Applications
During prayer: Fold it twice and wrap it into a tube. Drape it over your head for a natural, smooth fold. As you prostrate, the fabric trembles with your movements, resonating with the earth.
For Daily Commuting: Drape it casually over your shoulders, with one end hanging across your chest and the other wrapped around your back. Pair it with wide-leg pants or a shirt for a workaday look that’s both formal and relaxed than a regular scarf.
For a beach stroll: Untie it into a gauze square and tie it around your head or neck. The sea breeze filters through the modal fabric, bringing a cool breeze without messing up your hair.
We reject strong color contrasts and exaggerated prints because, for our Malay sisters, beauty should be natural:
- Off-white: Resembling the morning sun on the beaches of Kota Kinabalu, it best highlights the smooth texture of modal and complements any skin tone, making it a comforting color for Friday prayers.
- Light Lotus Root Pink: Like the sweetness of durian smoothie, its gentleness counteracts the heat of the tropical sun. When worn by young women, even their smiles are imbued with a touch of cuteness.
- Pale Moon Blue: Reminiscent of the Strait of Malacca, its calmness conceals a refreshing air. Wearing this with a white shirt instantly breaks the formality of office ladies.
- Chaka White: A warm, almost milky white hue with a soft-focus filter, it brightens complexions for those with sallow skin, making it a perfect haggling accessory.
Beyond breathability and comfort, we pay even more attention to the little details:
Modal fiber is treated with an anti-pilling treatment, making it less prone to snags and pilling, even when machine washed with other items. After all, we’ll be with you through the entire rainy season, from Eid al-Fitr to Deepavali, from this year to next.
Dear sister, the headscarf is a symbol of reverence for Allah during Fajr prayers, a form of self-discipline when leaving the house, and a source of elegance.
This thin breathable modal hijab is your cooling companion in tropical life. Its softness absorbs every drop of sweat, its breathable design responds to every gust of hot air, and its tailored design creates a perfect fit. It reminds you: faith is never a constraint, it allows you to embrace life more freely.
When you wear it, may you feel more at ease walking beneath the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur or running freely along the beach in Kota Kinabalu. Because you deserve every inch of fabric to treat you with tenderness.
